Hong Kong Tourist Arrivals Climb with Strong Summer Travel Growth

Date:

Hong Kong tourist arrivals continue to climb steadily as the city experiences strong travel demand from nearby and global markets. Official figures show nearly 24 million visitors arrived during the first half of the year. This reflects a 12 percent increase compared to the same time last year, signaling a strong comeback for the city’s tourism sector.

In June alone, 3.48 million tourists entered the city. Among them, 2.6 million came from mainland China. This consistent rise in tourist traffic has brought significant gains for the local economy, especially for businesses in shopping, transport, and hospitality.

The total visitor numbers from the mainland reached 17.8 million over six months, growing 10 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, non-mainland tourist arrivals hit 5.84 million, a 17 percent rise. These increases underline Hong Kong’s renewed appeal as a top destination for both short- and long-haul travelers.

Notably, short-haul markets saw strong performance. Visitor traffic from Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines grew by more than 25 percent. Long-haul visitors from Australia rose sharply by 33 percent, showing growing confidence in long-distance travel.

To build on this momentum, the Hong Kong Tourism Board launched a major summer campaign. It features over 150 seasonal perks, such as discounts on dining, shopping, attractions, and more. These rewards aim to encourage both tourist spending and local engagement. With this campaign active, officials expect Hong Kong tourist arrivals to grow further in the second half of the year. They hope to approach pre-pandemic levels by the year’s end.

Looking ahead, Hong Kong remains focused on strengthening its place as a key global tourism hub. Continued marketing efforts and improved travel infrastructure aim to maintain the city’s upward trend. As Hong Kong tourist arrivals continue increasing, the city welcomes more visitors with vibrant events, enhanced services, and a refreshed experience for all travelers.
