Kaohsiung’s Agriculture Bureau is working to increase its fruit exports to Canada. The move is aimed at boosting the region’s export value, which has already surpassed NT$10 million (US$324,000). The bureau is achieving this through supermarket tastings and educational events.
The bureau announced that its sales team recently met with major Canadian supermarket chains. The discussions focused on procurement and promotional activities for Kaohsiung’s fruits. Over the years, Kaohsiung has established itself as a key exporter of guava, jujubes, and dragon fruit to Canada. This has been achieved through various incentive programs aimed at increasing market reach.
The promotional efforts are not limited to fresh fruit. The bureau also introduced canned taro from the Jiaxian Farmers’ Association. Additionally, organic jams from Chen Jiah Juang have made their way to Kuohua supermarket. This supermarket is a leading Taiwanese food retailer in Canada. Special product displays have also been set up to enhance the visibility of Kaohsiung’s agricultural goods.
To further engage Canadian consumers, the bureau organized tasting events for red heart and pearl guava. These events took place over three days at major Canadian supermarket chains. The goal was to showcase the quality of Kaohsiung’s fruits and attract more customers. Traders noted that such tasting events tend to drive up purchases significantly.
Looking ahead, the bureau is considering making these promotional campaigns an annual event. By doing so, Kaohsiung hopes to sustain long-term growth and increase its market share in Canada.
In response to recent US tariffs affecting Kaohsiung’s edamame exports, the bureau is also promoting edamame from Bai Hsien Farm. This move is intended to help local producers expand their market reach and mitigate the impact of tariffs.
