Lai Urges Calm: “No Need to Stockpile Supplies” Amid COVID Surge

Date:

As COVID-19 infections rise in Taiwan, President Lai Ching-te reassured the public on Wednesday. He emphasized clearly that there is no need to stockpile supplies. Lai assured citizens that Taiwan’s COVID response remains strong and capable.

With the Dragon Boat Festival holiday nearing, Lai explained the outbreak will likely peak between late June and early July. Therefore, he strongly encouraged everyone who has not yet been vaccinated to get their shots immediately. “Vaccination remains the best defense,” he stressed.

Moreover, Lai highlighted that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has already secured sufficient vaccines and antiviral medications for the population. He urged people to avoid panic buying or hoarding. “There is no need to stockpile supplies,” he repeated to calm public concerns.

In addition, Lai advised everyone to wear masks in crowded public areas during this critical period. He underlined that practicing good hygiene continues to serve as the foundation of disease prevention. According to him, these simple habits can significantly lower infection risks.

Furthermore, President Lai extended his sincere thanks to the many frontline workers who continue to serve during the holiday. He recognized military personnel, police officers, firefighters, healthcare staff, and workers in essential services like utilities and transportation. Their ongoing dedication ensures that the public can travel safely and enjoy the festive break.

He pointed out that these workers’ efforts play a crucial role in managing the outbreak and maintaining public order. By keeping infrastructure running smoothly, they help Taiwan face the COVID challenge more effectively.

In summary, President Lai’s key message remains consistent: there is no need to stockpile supplies amid the rising COVID cases. Instead, he urges vaccination, mask-wearing, and good hygiene to control the spread. His remarks aim to keep the public calm while encouraging responsible behavior during the holiday season.

Taiwan continues to prepare for the upcoming weeks with careful planning and resource management. Thanks to these measures, authorities remain confident in handling the situation without public panic. Ultimately, cooperation and calm will help the nation navigate the peak of the outbreak successfully.
