Mongolia and India deepened their disaster preparedness cooperation during a high-level meeting in Ulaanbaatar. Colonel Ts. Ganzorig, Deputy Director and Chief of Staff of Mongolia’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), welcomed Indian Ambassador Atul Malhari Gotsurve to discuss future strategies.
The focus of the meeting was to enhance disaster preparedness cooperation between the two nations. Colonel Ganzorig and Ambassador Gotsurve discussed organizing joint emergency response drills. These exercises will specifically address safety concerns surrounding the planned Oil Refinery Plant in Altanshireet soum, Dornogobi aimag.
India is funding the refinery through a soft loan, making preparedness efforts crucial. Both sides agreed that early planning and coordinated action are essential. They emphasized the importance of joint training to boost readiness and improve crisis management capabilities.
In addition to emergency drills, they also discussed training programs for Mongolian emergency personnel. India proposed to enroll NEMA staff in its Technical and Economic Cooperation Program. This initiative will provide short and medium-term professional training courses.
This step in disaster preparedness cooperation will help Mongolian responders develop stronger emergency response skills. Colonel Ganzorig welcomed the idea and expressed plans to send more staff to benefit from the program. He also noted the value of learning from India’s experience.
Ambassador Gotsurve reaffirmed India’s support and its commitment to enhancing regional safety. He stressed the importance of mutual knowledge-sharing between the two countries. The ambassador encouraged continued cooperation through joint projects and exchange programs.
Both sides acknowledged the potential risks connected to the refinery construction. Therefore, they committed to prioritizing disaster preparedness cooperation. By sharing strategies and building mutual trust, Mongolia and India aim to better protect lives and infrastructure.
This renewed engagement reflects a shared commitment to advancing safety and regional stability through ongoing disaster preparedness cooperation.
