On April 26, 2025, Mongolia and Hungary reaffirmed their strong bond by deepening Mongolia-Hungary cooperation during official talks in Budapest. Mongolia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Battsetseg Batmunkh visited Hungary from April 24 to 26 at the invitation of Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.
Throughout their meeting, both sides celebrated 75 years of Mongolia-Hungary relations. They pledged to enhance economic ties by promoting investments and boosting trade activities. Moreover, they agreed to fully implement the 2024 Intergovernmental Agreement of Air Relations, which will soon launch direct flights between Ulaanbaatar and Budapest.
Minister Battsetseg highlighted Mongolia’s long-term development goals, such as the “Food Supply and Security” initiative and the “Billions of Trees” movement. She also introduced “White Gold” and “Blue Gold” programs, which present broad opportunities for Mongolia-Hungary cooperation. Hungary expressed great interest in supporting these national programs.
Additionally, the two ministers discussed joint efforts toward global challenges like climate change and desertification. They agreed to align their cooperation with the goals of COP17, which Ulaanbaatar will host in 2026. Furthermore, they committed to working closely during the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.
Education emerged as another key pillar of Mongolia-Hungary cooperation. Minister Battsetseg thanked Hungary for its scholarship programs that support Mongolian students. She emphasized Mongolia’s dedication to expanding educational exchanges and partnerships in higher education.
Cultural and scientific collaboration also formed an important part of the discussions. Both countries agreed to strengthen joint archaeological research, cultural exchanges, and heritage preservation efforts. These initiatives aim to bring Mongolian and Hungarian people closer together.
During the talks, the foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to cooperating within the United Nations and other international organizations. They also shared perspectives on several pressing global issues, highlighting the strength of Mongolia-Hungary cooperation.
After concluding their meeting, the ministers delivered a joint press statement summarizing their achievements and future goals. The visit underscored the growing importance of Mongolia-Hungary cooperation in shaping mutual prosperity and global collaboration.
