Mongolia-Iran Foreign Ministries Strengthen Ties at Second Consultative Meeting

Date:

The second Consultative Meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran took place on May 5, 2025, in Tehran. The meeting aimed to further develop the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.

Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav, State Secretary of Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, opened the meeting by emphasizing the steady growth of ties between the nations. He highlighted the mutual interest in deepening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

One of the key topics discussed was the increase in bilateral trade. Both sides expressed a strong desire to boost the volume of halal-prepared meat and meat product exports from Mongolia to Iran. This development marks a significant step in strengthening economic relations.

The officials also touched upon the successful joint research efforts on the history and culture of the Ilkhanate. Since 2014, both countries have worked together on this project, which has enhanced mutual understanding and appreciation of their shared heritage.

In addition to economic and cultural exchanges, both sides emphasized the importance of safeguarding historical and cultural assets, both tangible and intangible. They agreed to continue their efforts in preserving these treasures while fostering greater collaboration.

State Secretary Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav also met with Sayed Rasool Mohajer, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy of Iran, and the heads of the National Museum of Iran. These discussions reinforced the commitment of both nations to advance their cooperation.

Mongolia and Iran established diplomatic relations on May 20, 1971. Next year, the two countries will celebrate the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, marking another milestone in their ongoing friendship and collaboration.
