Meat Exports Drive Mongolia’s Growth

Date:

Mongolia’s meat exports are driving strong growth in the agricultural sector during 2025–2026. Jambaltseren Tumur-Uya, State Secretary of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, said enterprises can export up to 162,000 tonnes of meat this year. This figure shows the strength of Mongolia’s livestock industry and its rising international role.

So far, 59 enterprises have exported 51,000 tonnes of meat and meat products, earning around USD 211.2 million. These shipments highlight Mongolia’s growing competitiveness in global markets.

The government approved the export of 57,099 head of small livestock alive, of which 43,000 have already been shipped by October 27, 2025. These live exports show the country’s capacity to meet international demand efficiently.

In terms of sheep units, Mongolia has exported 2.8 million head of livestock this year. Of these, 26,565 went to Uzbekistan and 2,680 were sent to China. These numbers underline Mongolia’s strategic approach to regional trade.

Officials say meat exports strengthen the national economy, create jobs in rural areas, and support sustainable livestock practices. The sector’s growth improves both income and food security.

The government continues to support the industry by streamlining export permits and investing in processing and transportation infrastructure. These efforts aim to meet rising demand while ensuring quality.

Industry leaders add that investments in cold-chain logistics, veterinary services, and export capacity remain key for sustained growth. These measures will help Mongolia compete in global markets.

Analysts predict further growth in 2026 as Mongolia expands production and distribution capabilities. The outlook for meat exports remains highly positive.
