Mongolia and Switzerland held their 7th Political Consultation on June 3 in Ulaanbaatar. The meeting highlighted shared democratic values and laid out plans for deeper economic cooperation. Officials from both foreign ministries led the discussions, marking another step in their long-standing relationship. Moreover, this Political Consultation focused on practical ways to expand bilateral trade and investment.
Battungalag Gankhuurai, Director General of the Department for Europe and Africa at Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the session. Markus Leitner, Head of the Asia and Pacific Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, represented Switzerland. Together, they reviewed key milestones in Mongolia-Switzerland relations. In addition, they reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Consequently, both sides agreed to strengthen ties in priority economic sectors.
The delegations then discussed long-term development policies and identified opportunities for alignment. Mongolia presented its major upcoming events, including COP17 and World Horse Day. Furthermore, it expressed a strong hope for active Swiss participation. Switzerland welcomed these initiatives and signaled its interest in engaging. Meanwhile, the two sides examined cooperation within the United Nations and other international organizations. They also exchanged views on pressing global issues.
The Political Consultation concluded with a mutual commitment to intensify collaboration. As a result, both countries plan to follow up on the economic and diplomatic priorities outlined during the meeting. The dialogue also reinforced a shared understanding of international challenges. Looking ahead, Mongolia expects to deepen its partnership with Switzerland across environmental, cultural, and commercial fields. Officials from both nations described the talks as productive and forward-looking.
