Mongolian Freestyle Wrestling Team Trains in Dagestan

Date:

The Mongolian Freestyle Wrestling Team has started a major international training program in Dagestan, Russia. This marks the first time the full men’s roster is attending a joint training camp in the region.

Led by Head Coach D. Gombodorj and Assistant Coaches J. Chuluunbat and G. Amarkhuu, the team is preparing for high-level competitions. The training camp will continue for 21 days and includes daily intensive sessions with local and international athletes.

Following the Dagestan camp, the Mongolian Freestyle Wrestling Team will compete in the Ali Aliev International Freestyle Wrestling Tournament. This tournament honors Dagestani legend Ali Aliev, a five-time world champion. The Mongolian team expects to gain valuable experience by training and competing at this high level.

After completing their training and participation in Dagestan, the team will return to Mongolia on May 21, 2025. They will then prepare for their next major event, the Senior Ranking Series – Ulaanbaatar Open. This tournament, covering Greco-Roman, freestyle, and women’s wrestling, will take place from May 29 to June 1 at the Buyant-Ukhaa Sports Palace.

Meanwhile, six standout athletes from the U23 National Championships have also begun international training. These wrestlers, along with their coach, have traveled to South Korea to join the 2025 Wrestling Developing Countries Joint Training Program.

The Korea Wrestling Association is hosting the event and covering all expenses for the Mongolian athletes and their coach. This program will continue until May 18, 2025, and aims to support the development of wrestling talent in emerging countries.

Through these programs, the Mongolian Freestyle Wrestling Team is building strength and experience ahead of key international competitions. Coaches believe the exposure to elite-level training and tournaments will improve the team’s global standing.

As part of their broader strategy, the Mongolian Freestyle Wrestling Team plans to continue engaging in high-level training opportunities abroad to sharpen skills and expand international presence.
