Namewee Murder Probe: Malaysian Police Investigate Death of Taiwanese Influencer

Date:

Malaysian authorities have intensified the Namewee murder probe after a Taiwanese influencer died in Kuala Lumpur on October 22. The case has sparked major attention across Asia since Malaysian rapper Namewee was present when the incident occurred.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Fadil Marsus said police are investigating the case under Penal Code 302, which covers murder. Officers detained Namewee for questioning as part of the expanding Namewee murder probe.

Police received a report about a Taiwanese woman who lost consciousness in a hotel room in the capital. Emergency teams arrived quickly but could not revive her. Officials have yet to disclose her identity out of respect for her family.

Investigators said they found pills believed to be illegal drugs on Namewee during the search. Officers arrested him immediately but released him later on bail. Namewee rejected all allegations of drug use or possession and said the accusations were false.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Namewee argued that the reports exaggerated the situation. He admitted to drinking heavily recently but insisted he had no involvement with drugs. He said the Namewee murder probe is ongoing and asked the public to wait for verified results.

“I have just been drinking more lately. Believe what you want. Once the police report comes out in two or three months, it will all be clear,” he wrote.

He added that he had received threats and blackmail letters since the story broke. The growing controversy has raised concern within Malaysia’s entertainment industry. Artists fear the case could damage public trust in local musicians.

Taiwanese media outlets continue to follow the case closely, urging both governments to ensure transparency. Malaysian police plan to review forensic evidence and toxicology results before announcing the final findings.

Authorities expect the official report within three months. The Namewee murder probe remains active as investigators work to uncover the full truth behind the influencer’s death.
