New Taipei’s Sanying Line Completes Final Inspections, Set for Summer Opening

Date:

The New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems completed final inspections on the MRT Sanying Line, officials said yesterday, clearing the way for the new section to begin operations by mid-year. The department and New Taipei Metro Corp will operate the 14.29-kilometer line. It connects 12 stations across Tucheng, Sansia, and Yingge districts. Moreover, the Sanying Line will provide transfers to the MRT Blue Line and Taiwan Railways Corp services. Consequently, it will also help drive development in the Sanying area, the department stated.

The inspection committee convened under Department of Railways, Highways and Road Safety Director-General Wu Tung-ling. It comprised nine domestic experts. They conducted comprehensive reviews of civil engineering, electromechanical systems, and operations. Furthermore, the inspections included document reviews, on-site inspections, simulation exercises, and group discussions. A concluding meeting followed these activities.

After the review, the committee identified four items that require improvement before operations can begin. In addition, they flagged six general improvements and five recommendations for further enhancements. Department Director Lee Cheng-an relayed these findings. Meanwhile, once the necessary recommendations are implemented, the city can apply to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for an operating permit. As a result, the local government aims to open the Sanying Line this summer.

The Sanying Line represents a major infrastructure upgrade for the region. It will shorten travel times between the three districts and central Taipei. Additionally, the new line will integrate with existing rail and bus networks. This integration is expected to boost local economic activity. Furthermore, residents have long awaited this connection. The launch will mark a significant step in expanding New Taipei’s rapid transit network. Officials have not yet announced an exact opening date. However, they confirmed that the project remains on schedule. The Sanying Line will soon offer a reliable and efficient commuting option.
