Cross-Border Threats Escalate as Taiwan Condemns Beijing’s Intimidation

Date:

Taipei authorities have strongly condemned Beijing for cross-border repression targeting Taiwanese officials and citizens alike. The Mainland Affairs Council said the CCP intends to intimidate the public and restrict free expression.

The latest incident occurred after CCTV aired a video accusing Democratic Progressive Party legislator Puma Shen of secession-related activity. The broadcast threatened him directly, stating, “Stop now, or you will be next.” Officials argued this act demonstrates Beijing’s use of cross-border repression.

Moreover, the MAC emphasized that cross-border repression violates international norms and encourages fear among Taiwanese citizens. Authorities explained that the Chinese government aims to pressure political figures while creating a chilling effect across society.

The CCTV broadcast also cited alleged investigations by Chongqing authorities into Shen and criticized his actions involving Chinese spouses in Taiwan. Furthermore, the video exposed family details, which Taipei officials called another example of cross-border repression.

In response, the MAC is coordinating with international partners to counteract these intimidation tactics. Officials urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid cooperating with Beijing’s coercive strategies.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs echoed these concerns, describing the broadcast as a malicious fabrication and human rights violation. MOFA confirmed that China has no jurisdiction over Taiwan and reassured citizens of full protection.

Furthermore, Taiwan’s government has strengthened security protocols at overseas missions. Authorities are ready to respond to threats and maintain citizen safety abroad.

Overall, this case illustrates the ongoing use of cross-border repression by Beijing to undermine Taiwan’s democratic governance. The government is actively working to strengthen international cooperation to prevent future intimidation.
