Taiwan Lens Makers See Strong Growth from Tech Demand

Date:

Taiwan lens makers are experiencing a surge in demand as technology adoption accelerates worldwide. Smartphones, cameras, and virtual reality applications increasingly rely on advanced optics, boosting the sector’s growth.

Largan Precision, a leading supplier of high-end smartphone lenses, reported revenue of NT$6 billion in August, marking a 10% increase from the previous month. The company expects September orders to strengthen further, driven by growing interest in premium smartphone cameras.

Moreover, Largan is preparing to launch a variable aperture lens project in 2026. This initiative aims to enhance its existing lineup, offering better performance for high-resolution imaging. Currently, high-resolution lenses account for 10–20% of Largan’s production, while mid-range lenses represent 50–60%, reflecting the company’s focus on advanced camera technology.

Looking ahead, upcoming smartphone releases are expected to support further growth. Apple’s next-generation devices are likely to feature upgrades across all lenses, which institutional investors predict could boost Largan’s gross profit.

Genius Electronic Optical also reported strong performance. Its August sales reached NT$2.7 billion, up 13% from the previous month. The company noted that the third quarter remains a peak season, with future sales dependent on consumer response to new smartphone launches.

In addition, Canon Electronics posted August revenue of NT$974 million, its highest monthly figure in over eight years. The company benefited from renewed demand for digital cameras, with new models from Japanese brands contributing to growth.

Beyond traditional cameras, Canon is expanding into machine vision and drones. Robotics orders are secured through late 2026, while drone shipments may begin contributing by mid-2026. The company anticipates these segments could represent 5–10% of revenue in 2026, rising to 20% by 2027. This shift highlights the expanding role of optical technology beyond consumer electronics.

Overall, Taiwan lens makers continue to ride the wave of tech demand, benefiting from both established markets and emerging applications. The sector’s adaptability positions it for sustained growth as digital imaging evolves.
