Taiwan Shines with 18 Wins at Edison Awards

Date:

Taiwan shines with 18 wins at the 2025 Edison Awards, held in Florida this year. The Edison Awards celebrate excellence in new products, services, marketing, design, and innovation. This year, Taiwan showed a strong presence on the global innovation stage at the Edison Awards. At a press conference on Tuesday, the Ministry of Economic Affairs proudly announced the Edison Awards results. Specifically, Minister Kuo Jyh-huei revealed that Taiwan ranked second worldwide and led Asia in total Edison Awards received. Therefore, Taiwan’s 18 wins showcase its growing technological prowess.

Among the 18 accolades, 14 entries received support from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. These projects earned five gold, six silver, and three bronze medals at the Edison Awards. As a result, this marks Taiwan’s best performance ever at the Edison Awards. Moreover, Minister Kuo emphasized that the 14 supported projects focused heavily on AI applications. Additionally, the ministry plans to establish over 50 AI test fields across 16 sectors nationwide. This will help accelerate AI adoption by Taiwanese companies.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) stood out with three gold, three silver, and one bronze award at the Edison Awards. For example, one gold-winning innovation, the Smart Aqua Leak Finder, detects pipeline leaks in a new way. It uses AI to analyze underground acoustic signals, achieving 98% accuracy. Consequently, it has helped locate 834 leaks with Taiwan Water Corp. This saves about 10.94 million tonnes of water annually and promotes sustainability. Furthermore, ITRI won gold for NaPoGlass, a nanoporous material that treats industrial wastewater. This technology enables industries to reuse water and cut consumption by more than half.

Therefore, the semiconductor and electroplating sectors have adopted it for greener operations. The institute’s third gold award went to Dual-Phase Hydrogel Therapy. This biomedical material forms a gel over damaged tissue, protecting it for up to 30 days. In fact, clinical trials have tested the hydrogel for conditions like herniated discs and arthritis. Meanwhile, the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre earned a gold medal for its surgical navigation system at the Edison Awards. Using 3D magnetic sensing, the system gives surgeons multi-angle views and reduces repeated punctures. As a result, it lowers surgery death risks from 25% to 5%.

Finally, the Taiwan Textile Research Institute won gold at the Edison Awards for its AI-powered fabric inspection machine. This device uses AI and optical tech to detect fabric defects with 95% accuracy. Moreover, it inspects fabric at speeds of 120 yards per minute. Even better, it learns and improves over time.

In recognition of AI innovation, the Edison Awards Steering Committee honored Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Huang received the achievement award for his key contributions to AI, computing, and GPU technology.Overall, Taiwan shines with 18 wins at this prestigious Edison Awards event. Clearly, the country shows strength in AI, sustainability, and medical innovation. Ultimately, the future looks bright for Taiwan’s technological landscape.
