Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude on Saturday to the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China. This alliance condemned China’s recent military maneuvers near Taiwan. The military exercises, held from April 1 to April 2, featured live-fire drills and the presence of China’s aircraft carrier Shandong.
In a statement released on Friday, the alliance labeled China’s actions as “escalatory, provocative, and without justification.” The group also denounced the personal threats made against President Lai Ching-te. It emphasized that any attempt to change the status quo would undermine Taiwan’s security and jeopardize global economic stability.
The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China called on world governments to take action. Specifically, it urged them to impose meaningful sanctions on China. Additionally, the group recommended strengthening defense cooperation to prevent further escalation of tensions. The statement, signed by 43 legislators from 25 different countries, included members from the European Parliament, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung welcomed the alliance’s strong stance and emphasized the importance of concrete actions. He urged democratic nations to unite in their opposition to China’s military threats. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to standing with the international community. Taiwan aims to defend a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
The ongoing tensions surrounding China’s military maneuvers have prompted global concern. Taiwan has continued to receive support from various countries, highlighting the importance of regional security and stability. As the situation evolves, the international community remains focused on preventing further aggression and ensuring peace in the Indo-Pacific.
Taiwan remains committed to defending its sovereignty and working alongside international partners to ensure peace and stability in the region.
