The Taiwan Tourism Administration recently hosted the Taiwan Tourism Road Show in Seoul, highlighting Taiwan’s unique culinary culture. The two-day event, held at CaveHouse in Itaewon on April 19-20, recreated a traditional stir-fry restaurant to entice Korean visitors.
At the pavilion, attendees enjoyed a live cooking demonstration of pineapple shrimp balls, a signature Taiwanese dish. They also sampled several other Taiwanese favorites, including spicy stir-fried squid, saltwater chicken, and salt-and-pepper fried chicken. Wang Yu-Yun, representing Tainan’s The Render restaurant, noted that Koreans showed great enthusiasm for the dishes, especially the pineapple shrimp balls. They commented that the Taiwanese version differed significantly from those found in South Korean Chinese restaurants.
Visitors were also invited to participate in an interactive guessing game, where they tried to identify the ingredients commonly used in Taiwanese cuisine. This added an element of fun to the event while educating attendees about Taiwan’s rich food culture.
A total of 36 Taiwanese travel and tourism businesses participated in the road show, providing information about tourism opportunities in Taiwan. The event also featured several games, where lucky visitors had the chance to win grand prizes, including round-trip flights and accommodation vouchers.
More than 1,300 people attended the two-day Taiwan Tourism Road Show, making it a successful event in fostering cultural exchange between Taiwan and South Korea. This initiative not only promoted Taiwanese food but also aimed to boost tourism by highlighting the diverse experiences Taiwan offers.
In summary, the Taiwan Tourism Road Show successfully captured the interest of South Korean visitors. By showcasing Taiwan’s delicious cuisine and cultural offerings, the event reinforced Taiwan’s appeal as a travel destination.
