Tajikistan President Begins State Visit to Mongolia

Date:

Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon will pay a state visit to Mongolia from July 20 to 22. President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa extended this invitation, marking Rahmon’s first such state visit since 2009. Consequently, this trip ends a seventeen-year gap between formal presidential visits from Tajikistan.

Indeed, this state visit also serves as a reciprocal gesture following Khurelsukh’s own trip to Tajikistan last year. During official talks, both presidents plan to discuss expanding cooperation across several key sectors. These include politics, trade, the economy, agriculture, energy, transport and cultural exchange programs. Additionally, the leaders will exchange views on regional and international issues affecting both nations.

Furthermore, organizers have scheduled a Mongolia-Tajikistan Business Roundtable alongside various cultural events during the visit. Mongolia and Tajikistan first established diplomatic relations back in April 1992, building decades of steady ties. Meanwhile, last year’s visit to Dushanbe produced a Joint Statement on Developing Friendly Relations. In that statement, both countries reaffirmed commitments to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.

These sectors specifically included industry, renewable energy, transport, logistics, education and tourism development. During that same visit, the two sides signed eleven cooperation documents covering agriculture, transport and energy. Moreover, officials held the first Mongolia-Tajikistan Business Forum in Dushanbe under presidential auspices. The visit also featured cultural performances, including a traditional morin khuur exhibition and photography displays.

Ultimately, this state visit reflects the deepening partnership between two Central and East Asian nations. Going forward, officials expect expanded cooperation to strengthen trade and cultural connections between both countries. As bilateral ties continue growing, further high-level exchanges will likely follow in coming years.
