Tributes Pour In for Pope Francis from Korean Catholic Church

Date:

Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taick of Seoul offered heartfelt tributes for Pope Francis following the pontiff’s death at age 88 on Monday.

Chung expressed deep sorrow, yet he called on worshipers to continue living out the pope’s example. He encouraged people to follow the gospel through love and sacrifice. These tributes for Pope Francis reflected admiration for his lifelong mission to serve the vulnerable.

Archbishop Chung highlighted the pope’s compassion through meaningful examples. He recalled how Pope Francis chose the refugee-filled island of Lampedusa for his first pastoral visit. He also noted that the pope celebrated his first Holy Thursday foot-washing ceremony inside a juvenile detention center. These actions, he said, showed the pope’s commitment to the marginalized.

Furthermore, Archbishop Chung remembered the pope’s historic 2014 visit to Korea. During that trip, Pope Francis held a beatification ceremony for Korean church martyrs. This marked the first time such an event occurred outside Rome.

Chung called on the faithful to pray sincerely for the late pontiff. He reminded everyone that Pope Francis often asked for prayers throughout his life. These tributes for Pope Francis, according to Chung, must now continue in the form of active faith and compassion.

Lee Yong-Hoon, chairman of the Korean Catholic Bishops’ Conference, also expressed deep grief. He shared that time spent with Pope Francis brought hope and spiritual guidance. He prayed for the pope’s eternal peace and thanked him for his unwavering support for Korea.

Lee emphasized Pope Francis’ strong interest in Korean Catholic history. He praised the pope’s efforts in promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula. Lee also acknowledged the pope’s concern whenever disasters struck Korea.

According to Lee, the pope always comforted victims and their families. He also extended his support to the entire nation during difficult times. These tributes for Pope Francis, said Lee, reflect a spirit of unity and compassion.

Both leaders praised the pope’s enduring legacy. They vowed to carry forward his mission of love, peace, and solidarity across Korea and the world.
