Tropical Storm Wipha Brings Heavy Rain Across Taiwan

Date:

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecasts that Tropical Storm Wipha’s outer circulation will continue to bring heavy rain across Taiwan on Monday. Temperatures will range from 25°C to 31°C throughout the island. Taitung and Hualien will receive the most intense downpours. Meanwhile, other regions will experience localized heavy rain across Taiwan, which may disrupt daily life and outdoor activities.

In response to the worsening weather, Taitung County Government has suspended work and classes on Monday in Dawu, Taimali, Daren, and Jinfeng townships. Officials urge residents to stay alert for possible landslides and flooding caused by the heavy rain across Taiwan. People living in low-lying or mountainous areas should prepare sandbags, clear drainage paths, and avoid risky travel.

The Central Weather Administration also predicts strong winds in multiple areas from Monday through Tuesday. New Taipei, Changhua, Pingtung, Taitung, Penghu, and Matsu will likely face gusty conditions. These winds could bring down tree branches, damage weak structures, and cause power outages. Authorities recommend securing loose items outdoors and limiting travel during peak wind periods.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, heavy rain across Taiwan will remain concentrated in Taitung and Hualien. Other regions will see brief and scattered showers. Fortunately, the rainfall will ease starting Thursday and continue to decrease through the weekend. Northern and eastern Taiwan will experience occasional short showers, while most other areas will stay mostly cloudy with isolated afternoon rain. Meanwhile, temperatures will gradually climb, ranging between 25°C and 33°C.

Looking ahead, meteorologists predict a new tropical depression may form this week over the waters east of the Philippines. This system could approach Japan’s Okinawa Islands or impact eastern Taiwan depending on its path. Officials will keep monitoring the situation and update the public accordingly.

In summary, heavy rain across Taiwan caused by Tropical Storm Wipha will disrupt the weather for several days. Residents must stay informed through official channels and follow safety guidelines. Taking precautions against flooding, landslides, and strong winds will help protect people and property during this active weather period.
