Wendy and Yeri Leave SM Entertainment, Continue With Red Velvet

Date:

Wendy and Yeri of Red Velvet have decided not to renew their contracts with SM Entertainment. The label confirmed the news on Friday, stating that their contracts have officially ended. However, the two members will remain with the group. SM Entertainment will continue supporting the group’s activities moving forward.

The announcement followed a message from Yeri, shared the day before. She hinted at the decision and reassured fans of her commitment to them. She also expressed her desire to continue her journey with Red Velvet.

In contrast, the remaining three members of Red Velvet have chosen to stay with the label. Joy signed a contract renewal in January, while Seulgi and Irene made their decisions to stay in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Red Velvet, which debuted in August 2014, has made a significant mark in K-pop. Their most recent full-group project, the EP “Cosmic,” was released in June of last year. The mini album celebrated the group’s 10th anniversary. “Cosmic” made an impressive debut at No. 145 on the Billboard 200, marking their first entry on the main albums chart. Additionally, the album topped iTunes’ top albums charts in 50 regions, solidifying the group’s global presence.

Despite the changes in membership, Red Velvet remains a strong force in the music industry. Wendy and Yeri’s departure from SM Entertainment does not signal the end of their musical careers. Fans can expect them to continue contributing to the group’s activities. Red Velvet’s success story continues as they navigate this new chapter in their journey.
