Former Big Bang member Seungri has denied recent rumors about his potential business ventures in China. On Thursday, he addressed speculation that he was preparing to launch a new project in the country. The rumors gained traction earlier this week after local media reports suggested he was exploring business opportunities abroad.
Seungri had traveled to China last month, which sparked further speculation. It was reported that the singer might be involved in entertainment or cultural projects. This speculation grew after Seungri was seen in Seoul with former business partners just days before his departure.
While in China, Seungri attended an event at a nightclub in Hangzhou, which raised even more questions about his return to nightlife-related ventures. Seungri was accompanied by ten bodyguards, which added fuel to the fire.
However, Seungri firmly rejected the claims. “It’s not true that I’m considering re-entering the entertainment or cultural business,” he stated in an interview. “I met with some old colleagues, but it was just a casual meal to catch up.”
He further explained, “I currently reside in Korea, and my recent trips abroad were personal. I was either attending friends’ weddings or taking a break.” Seungri emphasized that he had not been involved in any business meetings or plans for new ventures outside of Korea.
This is not the first time such rumors have surfaced. Last year, speculation emerged that Seungri was planning to open clubs in Hong Kong and Cambodia. He denied these reports, saying, “Why would I return to the club business after everything that happened?”
Seungri withdrew from Big Bang in 2019 after being implicated in the “Burning Sun scandal.” He was convicted on several charges, including embezzlement and procuring prostitution, and sentenced to one year and six months in prison. Seungri completed his sentence in February 2023.
He also denied rumors suggesting he might pursue a comeback in the food and beverage industry or other fields he was involved in before his conviction. “I’m not considering any business ventures,” Seungri stated. “I’m simply spending time with my family and living quietly.”
