Ishibashi Takaaki Announces Esophageal Cancer Diagnosis and Plans to Return to Work

Ishibashi Takaaki, 63, a member of the popular Japanese comedy duo Tunnels, made a personal announcement on his YouTube channel on April 3. He shared that he had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

Ishibashi explained that he had not been feeling well since last fall. After seeking medical attention, doctors confirmed his condition. He mentioned that the cancer had been detected early, offering some relief. However, he emphasized that he had to undergo surgery and is now focusing on his recovery.

While undergoing treatment, Ishibashi made the decision to take a temporary break from his entertainment career. He acknowledged that he would need time to regain his strength before returning to work. Despite the setback, he expressed his determination to fight the disease with everything he had.

“I will bring out the very Teikyo spirit and overcome this illness,” he stated. Ishibashi, known for his positive attitude, promised fans that he would return to his work in high spirits. He also expressed a desire to perform again in the future, referencing his previous farewell at a concert where he vowed to hold another show.

Ishibashi concluded his message by thanking his supporters and asking for their prayers during this challenging time. He stressed that he would be taking a break but assured everyone that he would come back stronger and ready to continue his work.
