Drug Price System Launch in Mongolia

Date:

Mongolia launched a new drug price system on October 7, 2025, enabling citizens to access real-time information on medication costs and pharmacy locations. This drug price system marks a major step toward transparency and affordability in healthcare.

The platform currently covers 2,605 pharmacies and 2,565 active medications approved in the national registry. Users can search for specific drugs and see which pharmacies have them in stock. In addition, the system provides detailed information about usage, dosage, contraindications, ingredients, manufacturer, and country of origin.

Furthermore, the drug price system suggests alternative medications, helping patients find substitutes when necessary. Prices reflect the latest transactions recorded in the national e-receipt system, ensuring up-to-date and reliable data. Health Minister Chinburen Jigjidsuren emphasized that the platform aims to reduce artificial price inflation and alleviate citizens’ financial burdens caused by high medication costs.

The platform’s development involved multiple government agencies and took approximately one month. It represents a coordinated effort to modernize Mongolia’s pharmaceutical sector. Officials stated that the system enhances accessibility and informs citizens about their options for purchasing medicines safely and affordably.

Looking ahead, the drug price system will expand to include pharmacy stock levels, customs data, and supplier pricing. These updates will provide further transparency across the pharmaceutical supply chain and allow policymakers to monitor market trends effectively.

Analysts suggest that such public access tools could improve competition among pharmacies and strengthen overall healthcare efficiency. They also highlight that real-time drug information can reduce overpricing and encourage informed decisions by patients and healthcare providers.

The government continues to promote technology-driven solutions in healthcare. By integrating the drug price system into broader digital platforms, Mongolia aims to ensure equitable access to essential medicines nationwide. Citizens and healthcare professionals are encouraged to use the system regularly to verify prices and availability.

Overall, the launch of Mongolia’s drug price system demonstrates a clear commitment to healthcare modernization. It offers a practical tool for price transparency, improved patient decision-making, and reduced financial strain. The government expects that ongoing updates will make the system even more comprehensive and useful in the coming months.
