Mongolia and South Korea Partner on Gas Safety Cooperation

Date:

Mongolia and South Korea have launched a significant partnership aimed at improving gas safety. On April 29, 2025, the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia and the Korea Gas Safety Corporation (KGS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation on gas safety.

Under the agreement, the two sides will focus on safety measures related to flammable gases. They will also collaborate on strengthening legal frameworks and conducting joint training and research. This cooperation is crucial for the implementation of a technical assistance project. The project aims to establish a legal framework and an integrated monitoring system for the safety of gas importation, storage, transportation, distribution, and usage.

The partnership comes at a significant time, marking the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and South Korea. Over the years, the two countries have expanded their collaboration across various sectors. These include politics, economics, culture, education, and the extractive industries.

Through this agreement, both Mongolia and South Korea aim to bolster gas safety standards, benefiting from each other’s expertise. South Korea’s experience in gas safety management will help Mongolia build a safer, more sustainable gas infrastructure. Additionally, the cooperation will foster skill development and research initiatives to improve industry practices.

This MOU marks a major step in strengthening bilateral ties and improving safety measures in Mongolia’s growing gas sector. Both parties are committed to ensuring the success of the cooperation and achieving key objectives through this strategic partnership.
