The capital cities of Mongolia and Hungary have agreed to explore cooperation in several key areas, including eco-friendly wastewater treatment methods. Ulaanbaatar’s Mayor Nyambaatar Khishgee recently met with Budapest’s Mayor Gergely Karácsony to discuss possible collaboration. This marks a significant step in the ongoing partnership between the two cities.
During their meeting, Mayor Nyambaatar emphasized the importance of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Hungary. He highlighted the positive ties and the ongoing cooperation between the two nations. Moreover, the Mayor shared Ulaanbaatar’s ambitious plans, which include 24 mega projects. These projects aim to transform the city, focusing on critical infrastructure like roads, flood drainage systems, and a water treatment plant. The Ulaanbaatar Metro, in particular, is a priority. Nyambaatar also stressed the urgency of improving the city’s infrastructure to keep pace with rapid urban growth and ensure a better quality of life for Ulaanbaatar’s residents.
Mayor Karácsony expressed Budapest’s willingness to contribute, particularly in areas of public transportation. Budapest’s metro and tram networks are among the oldest and most complete in Europe. He suggested that Ulaanbaatar could benefit from their experience in metro and tram development. According to Karácsony, building a metro and tram system would also allow Ulaanbaatar to reform its road system, making the city’s transportation more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Both mayors agreed to work together on implementing eco-friendly wastewater treatment methods. They plan to share knowledge about sustainable water supply infrastructure, floodwater management, and wastewater systems. They discussed bringing Hungarian engineers and specialists to Ulaanbaatar to assist in these efforts. The embassies of both countries will support this exchange.
Both leaders also expressed enthusiasm about tourism cooperation, building on the growing interest between the two countries. The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to enhance cooperation in water management, public transportation, and sustainable urban development.
The two cities’ shared vision for eco-friendly wastewater treatment methods will likely strengthen their diplomatic and technical ties, benefiting both cities in the future.
