G7 Foreign Ministers Call on North Korea to Abandon Nuclear, Missile Programs

Foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) have issued a joint statement urging North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons and missile programs in compliance with resolutions from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Meeting in Charlevoix, Canada, the G7 ministers stressed the need for North Korea to fully relinquish all nuclear weapons and missile activities, calling for immediate steps toward denuclearization. However, they also notably highlighted human rights concerns, urging the North Korean government to swiftly resolve issues surrounding the abductions of foreign nationals.

The G7 statement also expressed serious concerns regarding North Korea and Iran providing military support to Russia in its ongoing war against Ukraine. China was specifically criticized for supplying Russia with weapons and dual-use components, labeling Beijing as “a decisive enabler” of Moscow’s continued aggression in Ukraine.

Additionally, the G7 ministers addressed growing worries about North Korea’s involvement in cryptocurrency theft and illicit financial activities, demanding that the regime cease such operations.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to confronting threats to global peace and security, emphasizing cooperation and collective diplomatic pressure as key tools in addressing nuclear proliferation and geopolitical conflicts.
