Taipei Fashion Week Kicks Off with Sustainability-Themed Runway

Date:

Taipei Fashion Week officially opened on Thursday with a strong emphasis on sustainability, showcasing innovative and eco-friendly designs from prominent Taiwanese fashion labels.

Featured designers and textile companies included Claudia Wang, DYCTEAM, and Shin Kong Textiles, who presented sustainable garments at the event’s opening show. Audience members were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look for the first time, watching models as they prepared backstage before stepping onto the runway.

The opening show focused on sustainable practices, digital pattern-making techniques, waste reduction, and functional fabrics. The runway itself incorporated creative elements symbolizing sustainability, featuring round objects like oversized thimbles, pin cushions, and thread spools, illustrating a commitment to circular fashion.

Taiwan’s Culture Minister, Li Yuan, highlighted the importance of eco-conscious sourcing during the event, demonstrating a handbag crafted entirely from pineapple leaves. He praised Taiwan’s capacity to produce fashionable yet sustainable goods that conceal their plant-based origins, reflecting the local industry’s strength.

Taipei Fashion Week, organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Taipei City Government, continues to spotlight designers inspired by various themes, including film, sports, Indigenous culture, Taiwanese landscapes, and gender fluidity, among others.
