Chinese Envoy Denounces Japan Groundless Accusations at UN Debate

Date:

Chinese envoy Teng Fei delivered a firm rejection of Japan groundless accusations during a UN Security Council open debate on maritime security. The meeting took place on Wednesday at the United Nations headquarters. Japan’s representative had made what China called groundless accusations about the East China Sea and South China Sea. The Japanese delegate also targeted China’s defense policies and the situation across the Taiwan Straits. Teng Fei, counselor of China’s Permanent Mission to the UN, said China completely rejects and firmly opposes this.

Teng pointed out that Japan’s recent military and security policies show a dangerous trend. The gap between Japan’s self proclaimed image as a peace loving nation and its actual actions has widened. In particular, Japan’s accelerating militarization has concrete plans and actions already underway. Therefore, the groundless accusations from Japan cannot hide its own destabilizing behavior.

The Japanese representative had previously stressed the importance of maritime legal order and navigation safety. However, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi recently claimed that Japan should prepare for new forms of warfare. She cited lessons from the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Middle East situation. Strengthening maritime security capabilities formed part of that plan. Consequently, Teng warned that the international community must watch Japan’s deeds, not its words.

“We cannot listen to what Japan says, but only watch what it does,” Teng said. He urged Japan to reflect on its history and demonstrate a commitment to peaceful development. Only then can Japan gain trust from its neighbors and the international community. Furthermore, Teng warned against Japan’s historical revisionism, calling it a serious threat. He urged all nations to remain vigilant against such tendencies.

The Japanese delegate’s groundless accusations also touched on the Taiwan question. Teng firmly urged Japan to adhere to the one China principle. He warned Japan against playing with fire on the Taiwan issue. Any interference will harm regional stability and bilateral relations. Japan must stop these groundless accusations immediately. The Chinese envoy’s remarks drew attention from many delegations at the meeting. In conclusion, Teng called for collective efforts to maintain regional and global stability. The groundless accusations from Japan will not change the facts. China will continue to defend its sovereignty and maritime rights.
