Autumn Beauty Lights up Hirosaki Castle

Date:

Autumn beauty has transformed Hirosaki Park in Aomori Prefecture into a glowing masterpiece. The annual Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival celebrates nature, art, and tradition.

Around 3,700 trees now display vivid shades of red and amber. Their reflection on the castle moat creates a breathtaking view. Visitors can enjoy the illuminated scenery daily from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. through mid-November. The lights and colors combine to create a calm yet captivating atmosphere that attracts thousands each year.

The festival’s centerpiece is a six-meter-tall floral structure inspired by Mt. Iwaki. It represents harmony between art and nature. In the castle’s botanical garden, chrysanthemums and apples float gracefully in a water basin, symbolizing Aomori’s agricultural heritage and creativity.

Local artists and gardeners spent months preparing the displays. Their efforts highlight Aomori’s cultural identity and the lasting appreciation for autumn beauty. Visitors can also enjoy tea ceremonies, traditional performances, and local cuisine, all celebrating the season’s spirit.

City officials expect visitor numbers to rise this year. They note that the festival strengthens regional tourism and supports local businesses. It also brings people together through a shared love of color, light, and tradition.

As temperatures drop, the park’s glowing trees and floral installations create an enchanting scene. The event reminds visitors of Japan’s close bond with nature. Organizers hope to expand illumination events in the coming years to share this autumn beauty with more people.

Through its fusion of color, light, and heritage, the Hirosaki Castle festival captures the true essence of Japan’s seasonal charm. It stands as a powerful expression of how fleeting moments of autumn beauty can connect culture, nature, and community.
