China FAW Group Co., Ltd. announced a bold international strategy for the Hongqi brand on Wednesday. The company revealed its five-year plan to establish operations in over 100 countries and regions. This move includes setting up 1,000 sales and service outlets worldwide.
Executives emphasized that the Hongqi brand will play a leading role in the company’s global ambitions. FAW plans to create five overseas hub clusters. These hubs will cover key markets such as Southeast Asia, Europe, and Latin America. These clusters will serve as bases for distribution, service, and development.
To support its expansion, FAW will build more localized low-carbon research and development centers. Additionally, the company will establish new supply chain and operation centers abroad. These efforts aim to raise annual overseas production capacity to more than 200,000 vehicles. The initiative will also generate over 20,000 jobs across the automotive supply chain.
Liu Changqing, vice president of Hongqi Brand Operations Committee, shared details of the technological foundation behind the expansion. The company will rely on three key platforms: the Hongqi Tiangong electric platform, the Hongqi Honghu hybrid platform, and the Hongqi Jiuzhang intelligent platform. With these technologies, the Hongqi brand plans to release over 20 new models globally.
Executives stated their goal clearly: to position the Hongqi brand as a global symbol of Eastern culture. Liu noted that this effort will give the brand a unique identity on the world stage. The brand name Hongqi, meaning red flag in Chinese, already holds strong recognition at home.
FAW launched the Hongqi brand in 1958. It quickly became a symbol of Chinese pride and tradition. Over the years, it earned fame as the official vehicle for major national parades and ceremonies.
Currently, the Hongqi brand offers 18 models. These include gasoline-powered vehicles, plug-in hybrids, fully electric models, and range-extended options. This wide selection reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation and consumer choice.
In 2024, the Hongqi brand achieved its seventh straight year of sales growth. The company delivered 411,777 units, reflecting steady global interest. As FAW pushes forward with expansion, the Hongqi brand stands ready to become a major international player.
