LG Electronics Forms Dedicated Robotics Business Center Under Direct CEO Oversight

Date:

LG Electronics announced Tuesday it will establish a new robotics business center reporting directly to its chief executive. The Robotics Business Center launches Wednesday as part of a broader reshuffle accelerating the company’s physical AI strategy. Furthermore, the center consolidates business development, sales, and operations functions into a single integrated structure. Consequently, LG aims to streamline everything from identifying new opportunities to managing supply chain and manufacturing.

Song Si-yong will lead the new center after previously overseeing manufacturing capability and smart factory solutions at LG’s Production Engineering Research Institute. Notably, this organizational move arrives roughly four months ahead of LG’s regular year-end reshuffle cycle. That timing underscores the company’s growing strategic emphasis on robotics as a critical future business priority.

LG will also place a dedicated data factory organization under the new robotics business structure. This facility will generate high-quality training data to advance LG’s robot foundation model development efforts. Additionally, the company expects stronger integration between its AI and robotics businesses as a direct result. LG stated the restructuring will strengthen governance, enabling faster decision-making and more agile strategy execution overall.

The reorganization also aims to improve coordination across LG affiliates including LG CNS and LG AI Research. Under what the company calls a One LG approach, these units will collaborate more closely on robotics initiatives. Moreover, LG plans to expand partnerships with major global technology companies as part of this push. The robotics business will target three distinct market segments through different organizational channels.

Specifically, LG plans to pursue home robots through the new center, industrial robots through subsidiary Robostar, and commercial robots through Bear Robotics. The company described 2026 as a foundation-building year for becoming a comprehensive robotics solutions provider. LG is constructing a large-scale robot training data factory at its Yangjae R&D campus in Seoul, with operations beginning this year. Additionally, the company plans to manufacture actuators domestically, leveraging over six decades of motor technology expertise for external customers.
