Mixed Team World Cup Ranking Points Increased

Date:

The International Table Tennis Federation has announced a major change regarding Mixed Team World Cup ranking points. This decision reflects the event’s growing significance, especially after its inclusion in the Olympic Games.

On Wednesday, the ITTF Executive Board approved the increase of Mixed Team World Cup ranking points from 1,000 to 2,500. This adjustment comes just weeks after the International Olympic Committee confirmed the event’s addition to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program.

The ITTF World Ranking Working Group proposed the change, which the Executive Board accepted without delay. Winning teams at the Mixed Team World Cup will now earn 2,500 ranking points. These points will be shared among players based on the number of matches they win.

This rise in Mixed Team World Cup ranking points shows the ITTF’s strong commitment to the mixed team format. Officials believe the new ranking system will motivate players and strengthen competition on the global stage.

The ITTF emphasized its goal to support athletes aiming for Olympic success. By raising the points, the federation hopes to reward players who perform well in this format.

The 2025 Mixed Team World Cup will take place in Chengdu, China, from November 30 to December 7. This tournament will now carry even more weight, thanks to the new points system.

Additionally, the ITTF announced that other major events will also see point increases. The World Team Championships Finals will now offer higher ranking points, aligning with the federation’s broader strategy.

This move sends a strong signal to the table tennis community. It highlights the growing importance of team events in international competition and prepares athletes for future Olympic battles.

With the Mixed Team World Cup ranking points now doubled, players will have more incentive to compete at their best. The change also provides national teams with stronger motivation to focus on this format.

In the lead-up to 2028, the ITTF plans to continue strengthening the mixed team event. This includes more strategic decisions to enhance its prestige and player engagement.

The increase in Mixed Team World Cup ranking points marks a new era for the sport.
