Mongolia Pushes Regional Growth with New Development Strategy

Date:

Mongolia’s Deputy Prime Minister Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan hosted a high-level meeting to present Mongolia’s Regional Development Policy. He welcomed ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, and non-governmental groups to discuss future collaboration.

During the meeting, Amarsaikhan shared Mongolia’s short-, medium-, and long-term goals. He emphasized a vision focused on balancing economic growth across regions. He explained that Mongolia’s Regional Development Policy aims to close the gap between urban and rural areas.

According to him, regional strategies must match local characteristics and resources. This approach promotes economic, social, and environmental harmony. To make this work, Amarsaikhan stressed the importance of international experience and support.

Diplomats and representatives welcomed Mongolia’s Regional Development Policy. Many praised the country’s clear goals and cooperative spirit. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his hope that all future projects would align with this national framework.

Amarsaikhan also acknowledged Mongolia’s democratic transition and growing international partnerships. He said development partners have played a vital role in the country’s success. Mongolia remains fully committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Still, challenges remain. Overreliance on mining continues to strain Mongolia’s economy. Amarsaikhan called for smarter strategies to diversify growth and protect the environment.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Jaap van Hierden, applauded Mongolia’s leadership. He noted that agriculture drives a significant part of the economy. However, climate change threatens rural communities. He supported government efforts to invest in food security and sustainable farming.

He also emphasized that regional development must include urban planning. Well-balanced policies could reduce migration to cities and build stronger communities.

Representatives from ADB, the UK, Germany, and China echoed similar views. They stressed the need for private investment, improved infrastructure, and long-term planning.

All agreed that Mongolia’s Regional Development Policy could transform the nation. By building on regional strengths, Mongolia can create opportunities for every citizen, regardless of location.
