Taipei Shines in Global Unity at World Masters Games

Date:

The World Masters Games launched with flair on Saturday at the Taipei Dome. From start to finish, the night celebrated global unity through sport.

To begin the evening, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim welcomed athletes and visitors from around the world. Moreover, she encouraged them to explore Taiwan and enjoy its hospitality.

Soon after, athletes entered the dome under bright lights and loud cheers. Altogether, over 25,000 participants from 107 countries joined the opening parade. As a result, the Dome overflowed with energy and excitement.

Shortly after the parade, indigenous pop star Abao, or Aljenljeng Tjaluvie, performed a stirring medley. Backed by the Nanguaq Girls, she delivered her songs with emotion and pride. Furthermore, dancers in vivid costumes brought the stage to life.

Meanwhile, a giant screen displayed greetings in various languages. Phrases like “on the same ground” and “share the same sky” flashed brightly. These visuals reflected the event’s spirit of global unity through sport.

Then, the music continued with performances by popular band Accusefive. Their lively set kept the momentum strong. Following them, singer Billie Wang and her son Nich Chou took the stage. With cheerleaders from the Taiwan Professional Baseball League, they ignited the crowd with a dynamic routine.

In addition, top athletes appeared to support the event. Table tennis stars Chuang Hung-chieh and Chuang Chih-yuan stood proudly among the performers. Their presence underscored Taiwan’s sporting excellence.

Later in the ceremony, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an spoke to the crowd. He thanked every worker and volunteer behind the scenes. Likewise, he praised the Games as a showcase of Taipei’s global strength. Most importantly, he emphasized global unity through sport as a lasting goal.

Not long after, New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih offered words of encouragement. He urged athletes to push their limits and build unforgettable memories. Additionally, he promised that locals would cheer them on throughout the two-week event.

Finally, five torchbearers carried the Olympic flame into the stadium. Olympic champion Lin Yuting led the group. She was joined by baseball legend Peng Cheng-min and 104-year-old badminton record-holder Lin Yu-mao. Also among them were Golden Horse winner Sylvia Chang and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

Together, they lit the flame under thunderous applause. Consequently, the Games officially began. With a theme of global unity through sport, Taipei welcomed the world in unforgettable fashion.
